Not the first double of 2026
Both jackpots were also above $500 million at the same time in late July. Then the combined total peaked at about $1.46 billion: Mega Millions at $800 million for July 28 and Powerball at $663 million for July 29. A ticket in Florida won the Mega Millions jackpot that week, and Powerball kept rolling until it reached $1.04 billion on Aug. 12.
Should you play both?
Each game’s odds are separate, and buying tickets for both doesn’t improve your chances at either. Set a budget and stick to it.
